IT WILL ALWAYS STARTS AT HOME

To say home means more than just the physical space where we live or the four corners that keeps us warm during uneasy times. It's bigger than that. Home, for many of us, is the comfort we get from the people we care for and who loves us back. It is the assurance that we can be ourselves even if the world pries at us condescendingly and that confidence that it really doesn't matter because we are at home.

THE CHALLENGE

I, for one, has been struggling how to lift off this project let alone sustain it. I have created this project (blog) without a name that sounds intrinsically what it is and the first concern I had was what's in a name? What it should be called? For quite a time I had settled with Maasin Sii as was inspired by many comments from the project's Facebook page when I posted what is peculiar about Maasin and turned out that the word "sii" came more often than the others, so I thought it could be a place-holder for the meantime.

Why do I have to have a name? Easy. It's an identifier. An identity. It is something that will set the project apart from the crowd, if ever there's a crowd to speak of, but I was so sure there will be so I matter of factly needs a name to present the idea. Not me but the idea. So I come up with destination branding.

THE CHOICE

Discover <place>, Visit <place>, I love(heart) <place, etc. I am sure you have encountered all of this and more and while this may be hits, I have decided not to go with the usual as this is overly used. I opted for Definitely Maasin.

WHY DEFINITELY MAASIN

I prefer that the name would affirm - an answer to questions like where would be nice to spend the vacation, where will the best morning 'painit' in this side of the island, where are the nicest people, where is there peace and order, where it is clean, where everybody is in harmony and united, where things are going well and everything is just right, I want to answer all of them with - Definitely, it's Maasin!

It does not proactively drawing a 'come here' by invitation but through affirming what one should rather hear, and that is it's a right decision to consider. What I like more is that we don't beg for them to come, tourist-wise, or begging for anything actually, but we are always welcoming everyone who wish to be here. It's what family is like. It is what home is like. You just go and you are welcomed with all the warmth and hospitality a home can provide.

WARMTH OF A HOME

Home will always be our base. This is where we draw our strength and be inspired to do well in the world. It is where we come back to. This will always be the place we love. And I want it affirmative that it is and always. Maasin should be the affirmative of what we were, what we are, and what we will be. Maasin has raised good children, provided us with just and peaceful environment for our families to thrive. It is where great memories were created. It's actually home in a bigger aspect, that is.

So next time you're asked, where is home? Say, Definitely Maasin.

I like the sound of it. Sweet.
